Mrs. Alma Marian (nee McCallum) was born at Portage Du Fort, Quebec, and came to Thunder Bay (Fort William) at the age of five.
She received her education in the local Catholic school system. Alma learned the trade of floral design at Lecocq The Florists, and then opened Flowerland Florists working there until she retired in 1975. Alma was an avid fisherman and gardener.
For a number of years, Alma was active in St. Agnes Church, Pastoral Care at Westmount Hospital and Pinewood Court, the district home for seniors. She was also, a volunteer at Pinewood Court, attached to the Residence Council.
Alma was married to Cyril (Cy) Gatien in 1940 and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary in September 2002. Alma was predeceased by son George, December 6, 2001, husband Cy, November 17, 2002, her parents, brother Harvey McCallum, sisters Leita Carson, Frances Cuff, Inez Eckmier, Grace McMillan, and sister-in-law Anne McCallum. She is survived by sister Bernadette Voth of Dryden, Ontario, as well as numerous, nephews, nieces, great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church by Reverand James Panikulam, on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 12:10 pm. Services will be completed at the church, with interment to take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Alma Gatien will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
