Mrs. Alverne Theresa Cole (nee Geeson) passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in St. Joseph's Hospice, with her family by her side.
Alverne was born on March 2, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Victor and Bernice Geeson. She attended local schools and lived in Brandon, MB for a number of years before returning to Fort William. Alverne graduated from the RNA Course in 1953 and went on to work at the Sanatorium and McKellar Hospital, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of service. Alverne's family was her greatest passion and she enjoyed spending time with all of them.
Alverne will be deeply missed by her husband of 59 years, Raymond; children Kevin (Sharon), Keith, Crystal (Bill) MacLaurin and Kelly Heidrick; grandchildren Tara, Karlie, April, Billy, Curtis and Danice and one special great-grandson, Nathaniel. She is also survived by her two sisters, Barbara and Beverley (both of California) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Bernice Geeson; brothers Harold and Richard Geeson; sister Joyce (Fred) Fear as well as aunts, uncles and other relatives.
As per Alverne's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Mountainview Cemetery. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Alverne to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
