Mr. Amedeo Scaffeo age 93 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, died in Bethammi Nursing Home, on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
Amedeo was born in Capograssi, Salerno, Italy to Giovanni and Caterina. He was raised there and was married to Caterina Scaffeo on August 29, 1948. In 1967, he came to Canada with his wife and children to make a better life for his family.
Amedeo worked at Westmount Hospital until his retirement in 1988. One of his favourite pastimes was walking to the grocery stores and Victoriaville to visit his friends for coffee. Throughout his life, Amedeo loved tending to his garden, making wine and tomato sauce with his family. At any family function he was the one to say prayers, give long speeches or sing and dance. Amedeo loved to dance to rock n’ roll. Amedeo took pride in always giving the younger generation words of wisdom and to wish health and happiness to all.
First and foremost in Amedeo’s life was his family. He is survived by his loving children Marissa Catanzaro (Anthony) New Jersey, John (Sylvie) Thunder Bay, Tony (Jennifer) Calgary; grandchildren David (Gisele), Daniel (Kayla), Melissa (Duncan), Olivia and Sophia; Great grandchildren Taylor, Kainaan, Xavier, Braeden, Gianna and Gino. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Rosa and Maria, both in Italy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives here and in Italy.
Amedeo was predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Caterina, wife Caterina in 2011, brothers Francesco and his wife Angela, Esterino and his wife Angela, sister Maria and husband Luigi Cilento, daughter-in-law Pirkko Scaffeo and nephew Antonio Scaffeo.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am/pm, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G.
Private interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for friends and family will take place on Monday August 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with prayers at 7:00 pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Amedeo Scaffeo will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
