Mr. Angus Backman, age 61 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away suddenly at home on February 26, 2016.

Angus loved life and lived it to the fullest, never missing an opportunity to celebrate and bring joy and happiness to those around him. Although retired at the time of his passing, Angus was a proud papermaker having spent his career on #5 and 6 paper machines at Provincial Papers/Cascades.

Outside of work, Angus loved curling and golf and spent many years as a dedicated volunteer at The Port Arthur Curling Club, his proudest roles involved passing on his love of the game to the next generation including 20 years spent involved with the Stick and Stones little rock curling program.

Angus will be sadly missed by his former wife (and lifelong friend) Louise Backman, his son Jason Backman (Kerri), and his daughter Lisa Backman (Shari). Angus will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Brendan and Emma Backman and Quinn and Robin DeCaire. Angus is also survived by his father Arthur Backman, sisters Gwen Marshall (Robert) and Penny Richard (Ken) and brother Fred Backman (Linda). Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Angus was predeceased by his mother Isobelle, whom he missed dearly and we can now take comfort in knowing that he is with her once more.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Chris Harper. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Angus’ memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Northern Cancer Fund.
