Mrs. Anna Sophia McEachern, age 85 years, passed away peacefully in Dawson Court on Monday, May 18, 2015.

Anna was born in Port Arthur on November 11, 1929. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary for Peter Neelands Sr. before getting married to Howard McEachern in 1949. Anna also looked after First Nations students in the 1960's, forming lifelong attachments. In the early 1970's, Anna and Howard moved to the country, where she gardened, looked after her daughter's horses and for a brief period, produced pottery for Strawberry Hill Werkshop, before turning her attention to painting. She was a prolific watercolourist and oil painter and she put on several successful shows of her work to raise money for AIDS relief in Africa. Anna was also an active member of the Evangel Church with her daughter, Judy. Anna was a woman of great strength and conviction and stood up for the causes she believed in. She was also a woman who possessed deep compassion and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Anna is survived by her children Gerald (Sharon), Maureen (Greg) Reid and Judy (Eric) Harju; daughter-in-law Susan; sisters Helen Sas and Antoinette (Arne) Just; brother Walter Reszitnyk as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
