Our beloved mother, Mrs. Anni Endler, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at TBRHSC with daughter, Irma, by her side on July 28, 2024.

Born January 9, 1927 in Berlin, she was raised and educated there. At 28, she immigrated to Canada with 3 young children to make a new life with her husband, Herbert, who had established a home in Fort William. Shortly thereafter they bought a property outside of Kakabeka Falls where they farmed for many challenging years and made long lasting friendships. Widowed at the age of 61, she spent several years selflessly caring for her sister-in-law, Helga, and her family.

Eventually, she moved to a great neighbourhood in Thunder Bay where she lived happily for another 19 years beside Ruth and Jon who were the very best neighbours to her. She loved taking care of her yard, plants, birds and doing jigsaw puzzles with her grandson, Mark.

She was an amazing woman; fiercely independent, strong and proud. Coming from extremely harsh beginnings, she accomplished so much in her life. Mom was always a firm foundation in our lives and will be sorely missed by us and everyone who knew her. Her favourite line was always “If I'm not happy, it's my fault.”

Left to mourn are son, Peter (Nancy), and daughter, Irma, who were such a great help and comfort to her over the years. Also survived by grandchildren Peter Jr., Julia, Leanne, Melanie, Mark and Elizabeth, great-grandchildren Lindsay, Ryan, Sullivan, Ella and Mason, niece Christine and family in Muggelheim, Germany. Predeceased by husband, Herbert, 2 infant sons and numerous relatives in Germany.

Special thanks to Dr. Sarrazin and nurse Steph in Emergency, Drs. Biggs, Bezanson, Kim, Addison and Toppin. Their kind, compassionate care will never be forgotten. Also thanks to the Paramedics and Firefighters for their rapid response and professional care, the RT staff who kept her as comfortable as possible and nurse Colleen (2B) whose kind and gentle care was so appreciated in her last hours.

A celebration of life for friends and family will be announced. If so desired, donations to the War Amps would be appreciated.
