November 14, 1960 - March 10, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Anthony Starcok on March 10, 2025, with family by his side. Although taken far too soon, Anthony enjoyed a life well lived as it is not the years in a life but the life in those years. It is challenging to encapsulate his life briefly.
The Starcok family moved to California when Anthony and Rick were toddlers. Losing their mother at an early age, the young family stayed a resilient unit - with a bond that flourishes to this day. Their father, determined to give his children every opportunity to thrive, moved the family back to Thunder Bay, to be surrounded by strong family and social connections. John met and married Natalie, who took on the formidable task of helping raise five active children! Anthony's father John was his greatest influence. His example gave Anthony a firm foundation on which to build his life values, his love, loyalty and respect for family and friends, his work ethic; all with conviction to do the right thing.
Anthony had a wide range of interests, each tackled with energy and passion. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, a wide range of sporting activities including cycling, baseball and kayaking. He was tenacious when fixing things and problem solving. He was a talented builder. A great passion was travelling which took Anthony and Brenda from gorilla trekking and safaris in Africa, hiking to the top of Huayna Picchu at Machu Picchu, Peru, cooking classes in Viet Nam and Cambodia, snorkelling with stingrays in Grand Cayman to interacting with elephants at a sanctuary in Nepal.
His work also took him to all corners of Canada and America. Anthony spent 40 years in the engineering field with Valmet Inc., finishing his career as a Project Manager. According to management and co-workers, he was exceptional at his job. Many co-workers became close friends. He was generous, offering his help and knowledge before having to be asked. This was true at work and outside of the office. When Anthony was involved, everyone knew things would be done properly! He designed and built his own home, his cottage at Shebandowan Lake as well as helping others with their projects.
He loved his cats and his late dog Lola. From feeding elephants and his backyard birds, rescuing animals in peril, to pet-sitting or building outdoor catteries, Anthony's kindness extended to all nature's creatures.
Anthony leaves behind his devoted partner Brenda Goodman, sister Cathrine Gabriel, brothers Ben (Sue), Ken (Rita), and twin brother Rick (Karen), as well as his beloved niece, nephews, and extended family members. The Goodman family will sadly miss him. Anthony was predeceased by his mother Mary, father John, stepmother Natalie and brother-in-law Dave Everett.
The family extends gratitude to Dr. M. Ibrahim for his efforts and compassion. Thank you to the staff of 1A of TBRHSC and 3 North of SJCG for their care.
In keeping with Anthony's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Should friends so desire, donations to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society or an animal rescue of your choice would be appreciated.
"Dear Anthony, you live on in our hearts and minds. We will not cry because you've passed; we will smile because you lived."
