It is with heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of Arthur Donald Stewart on August 10, 2024.

Don, aka Papa, was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. He joined the Canadian Army at the age of 17 and served as a Signalman for 3 years before settling in Fort William.

Don held many jobs in his 92 years. He was an electrician by trade but worked as a manager at Little Norway Ski Hill, a school bus driver, a security guard, delivering newspapers and flowers to name a few. His favourite by far was driving Big Rigs. He retired from United Grain Growers.

He was also a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Church serving as a Layreader and the Good Sam’s RV Group. Don also held a position on the board for the building of our new Health Unit.

Having lived a good portion of his life running a hobby farm in South Gillies, Don had many passions in his life. Those included camping, wood working making toys for his grandchildren, cheering on the Blue Jays and golfing. He got two holes-in-one and played at St. Andrews in Scotland. He was a jack-of-all trades.

Don is survived by his wife of 50 years Kathie; his children Sherry Loyst, Sherry (Rick) Felbel, Trent Orton, Ron (Leslie) Stewart, Don (Lisa) Stewart, Wanda Marsh and Laurel (Cliff) King. Papa had 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, brothers Doug and Warren Stewart and extended family.

Don is predeceased by one child Elaine Stewart and his parents Violet and Bob Stewart and brother Roy, as well as aunts and uncles.

Many thanks to the staff of Hogarth 3-South and Thunder Bay Regional for their care of Don in his final days.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held on September 14th, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Church, Rosslyn with Rev. Jonathan Blanchard and Rev. Nancy Ringham officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark’s Church, Diabetes Canada or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
