Audrey Grace Bartholomew, nee Hounslow, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital on January 6, 2016 with family by her side, after a generous life of 91 years.
Many people remember Audrey fondly as the helpful salesclerk at Chapples, the friendly voice on the phone at Stovers Storage and Company, and the wonderfully organized woman in the Continuing Education Department at Confederation College where she worked until retirement.
She loved the outdoors and the wilderness, taking numerous camping, canoeing and portaging trips with her husband Ed. Audrey had a great love of all animals. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, collecting antiques and “hippos”. She was a member of the Fort William Girls Pipe Band, playing the bagpipes, then becoming a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Audrey was a caring, generous woman with a carefree sense of humour.
Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ed; children Lynda Fearn/Strbavy (Aly), Martin Strbavy (Trish), Karen Strbavy (Allan “Mad”); grandchildren Jason Biggar (Vikki), Kevin Biggar, and Laura Strbavy; great grandchildren Jamie and Jordan Biggar; numerous nieces, nephews and all whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters Doris Almos and Phyllis Laderoute.
Funeral services are pending completion for the first day of summer, June 20, 2016. An announcement will follow closer to the date of the service. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Audrey’s memory to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society, Diabetes Association or charity of choice would be appreciated.
Mom is in her “Happy Place”, sitting in the canoe with her hand softly drifting in the water. Carry on Mom, you will forever be loved in our hearts and dreams.
