Audrey Hartviksen, 96, passed peacefully after a long and happy life on September 10, 2024 at Roseview Manor, surrounded by the presence and love of her family, and now rests with her loving husband Robert.

Audrey was born to Cyril and Alice (nee Upton) Bannister on June 24, 1928.  She grew up in Port Arthur and attended Shuniah Elementary School and Hillcrest High School.  She married Robert on June 5, 1948 and raised their four children on Farrand Street.  Audrey and Robert were faithful and dedicated members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.  They built their camp at Amethyst Heights and they spent summers at the Lake.

Her volunteer work at Shuniah School assisting the establishment of the Resource Library led her to work for the Lakehead District Catholic Separate School Board in the Instructional Materials Center.  Once the family was grown, Audrey and Robert spent 3 years in Ottawa, before returning to Thunder Bay.  Following Robert’s passing in 1988, she enjoyed living on Egan Street, travelling with friends and her daughter Susan and spending time at camp with family.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Hartviksen, her daughter Susan Furlotte (Don), her son Ken Hartviksen (Connie) and her granddaughter Melissa Furlotte.

She will be greatly missed by her son Grant Hartviksen (Grace), her daughter Karen Gavan (Michael Leonard), her daughter-in-law Connie Hartviksen, her son-in-law Don Furlotte, her sisters Eva Taylor and Carol Perozak, her grandchildren Jennifer Hamilton (Chris), Mandy Ahtila (Mike), Keely Cambly (Steve), Kellen Hartviksen (Rachel), Shawn Hartviksen (Armelle), Alison Celan (Bojan) and Melanie Gavan (Chris).  She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Zak Hamilton, Barry and Violet Ahtila, Nash Cambly, Ryker Hartviksen and Emma Celan as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 2 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 10 Farrand Street with Pastor Matthew Diegel officiating.  Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Audrey’s memory to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
