Mrs. Barbara Maxine Doiron (nee Smith), age 87, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home on April 22nd, 2025. Barbara was born on February 9th, 1938, to Alice and Sunny Smith in Port Arthur, Ontario. Barbara grew up in the Brent Park area and attended Shuniah School. Barbara worked many jobs in her younger days, including Sistonen’s Corner, New Method Drycleaners and Kmart. While working at New Method Drycleaners, she met Eddie who became the love of her life. They were later married on December 1, 1956 and together raised 3 children. Barbara bowled 5-pin at Play Time Lanes for over 25 years. She was always baking or crafting something. Whether it be embroidery, rug hooking, pies, cakes or her prized butter tarts. Barbara enjoyed camping and travelling with her family. Whether it was trips to BC, or New Brunswick, tenting and fishing, a day trip at Grand Portage, or time spent at her camp at Obonga Lake.
Barbara is survived by her children Terry (Amy), Ron (Silvana) and son-in-law Andy. Grandchildren Nicki (Rick), Danielle, Kayla, Micheal, Troy, Melissa (Justin). Great-grandchildren Lyric, Brayden, Ella, Jordyn, Maci, Kai, Layla, Finn, Evie, Maxim and Ronan. Sisters Shirley, Dorothy (Bob). Brother Allan (Shirley) and brother-in-law Freddie, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Alice and Sunny, sister Beverly, loving husband Eddie, daughter Pauline, parent-in-laws Alisa and Elzea, sister-in-law Ruth, brothers-in-law Aurele, Eric, Armand, Graham, Gerard and Max, and daughter-in-law Tuija.
Barbara’s family would like to thank all the staff at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home. Especially the 3rd floor for taking such great care of her for the past 6 years.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held on Thursday May 8th, 2025, at North End Community Centre from 11:00am – 2:00pm. A private family interment will be held later.
Donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, in lieu of flowers.
