Mrs. Barbara Sadako Oshimo, 91 years old, passed away peacefully at Lakehead Manor on Friday, January 22, 2016, with family by her side.
Barb was born on January 1, 1925, in New Westminister, BC., to Sekitaro and Saku Oda.
After arriving in Fort William, she met the love of her life, Minoru, and together they raised three sons. Barb loved to cook for and bring her whole family together for a big meal. She also loved to teach traditional Japanese dancing with the LJCA, play keno and cards, do word searches, knit and go shopping.
She especially loved to spend time with and was very proud of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barb was predeceased by her husband Minoru, her brothers Frank and Paul, and sisters Sarah and Frances. She is survived by her sons Gordon (Bonny), Douglas (Pamela) and Wesley (Allison); grandchildren Kelly (Eric), Rylee (Steve), Travis (Jessica), Kristi (Mike), Cameron (Sarah), Spencer, Sean, Sanae (Jesse), Marcus and Michael; great-grandchildren Riley, Adam, Harrison, Henry, Hayden, Mason, Bridgit and Bailey, as well as her sister Tomeko, and many, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at the West Thunder Community Centre on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016, from 1pm to 3pm with words being spoken at 1:30pm.
Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Barbara Oshimo will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
