The family of Betty Tackney, a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, sadly announce the passing of their mother on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with family members at her side. 

Betty was born on May 17, 1920 in Port Arthur to parents Roy and Frances Cooke. 

On November 28th 1942 she married our father Urban J. (Barney) Tackney in North Bay Ontario.  She was a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, since the 1940’s, remaining active in the church activities until her death.  She was a proud Lifetime Member of the Catholic Women’s League. 

She enjoyed her knitting and her “Jolly Jills” Bridge Club as well as her Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs on TV.  She always enjoyed time spent with her family, especially Christmas Eve at the family home on Christina Street.

Mom is survived by her daughter Bev (John Walgren), son Tom (Marianne) and duaghters Debbie (Rod Bosch), Bonnie (Terry Joseph) and Kim (Steven Meyer), as well as daughter-in-law Jane, fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Roy and Frances, husband Barney, son Dennis, her brother and sister-in-law (Roy and Edith Cooke), and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church at 12:10.  Visitation for family and friends will be offered Monday, February 8, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  Flowers are gratefully declined and memorials to your favourite charity in memory of our mother would be appreciated.

Betty Tackney will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
