It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beverly Jane Muratagic, affectionately known as Bev, who left this world on February 21, 2025. Bev was predeceased in death by her parents Joseph and Rose Zeleny, her husband Hank, as well as her son Chris Muratagic.

Bev will forever be loved by her son Michael Muratagic, brothers Richard Zeleny (Anna) and David Zeleny, her grandchildren Bryce Muratagic (Makayla) and Michaila Lezotte, her great grandchild Jax, as well as nieces and nephews Lisa Dell (Kevin), Lael, Arla, and Joel.

Bev was born in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) on July 6, 1948. Her story is one of life well-lived and well-loved. She was a beacon of light in the lives of her family, friends, and colleagues. She was a graduate of Hammarskjold High School, and her entire life was a testament to the power of kindness and friendliness. She had the rare ability to turn strangers into friends, and friends into family. Bev will be remembered as a woman of remarkable skill and dedication, which shone brightly throughout her career. She worked as a secretary at Ball Electric and then took care of the family home business, where she was known for her meticulous work and friendly demeanour. Her life was a tapestry woven with love and selflessness. Her spirit, love, and the memories she created will continue to inspire and comfort those who have been fortunate enough to know her. Her son Michael will continue to carry the torch of her legacy.

Bev and her late husband Hank were partners in both life and adventure. Together, they shared a passion for racing, a hobby that had them travelling extensively across Canada and the United States. These journeys were not just about the thrill of the race but also about their family creating a deep connection with the memories they created. Bev also loved doing crafts and cruising around town in her 86’ Grand National with the music blaring. It truly was her ‘baby’ as she used to call it. Her other great passion was gambling at Grand Portage Casino, but only allowed herself a minimal amount to spend.

Our heartfelt thanks to all those who cared for Bev in her last days at the TBRHSC. Although we believe that her time on earth ended too soon, we find peace and comfort knowing that she did not suffer in her final hours as she went peacefully in her sleep.

As we reflect on Bev’s life, words of the great American poet Maya Angelou come to mind. She once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Bev indeed left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched with her warmth, kindness and generosity.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Bev will be held at a later date, and details will follow.
