It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bishop Garfield Racicot on December 30, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Bishop, after a courageous battle with cancer and renal disease, left this world with his wife Linda and son Mitchell by his side. Bishop loved life and did not let his illness get in the way of living it to the fullest.  Born in Sudbury, Ontario on March 14, 1963, and raised in Wahnapitae, Bishop grew up with strong family values and ties that he carried with him to his last day.  Bishop loved meeting people, and this was never more evident as when he established “Bishop’s”, a food vending business, where he fed many faithful customers with sausage, hotdogs, hamburgers, fries and poutine.  He was also a dedicated employee of Hydro One for over 37 years and served his community as a Councillor for the Township of O’Connor with pride for over 24 years.  Settling in O’Connor Township in 1993, Bishop spent many hours with his children and friends, playing paintball in the backyard, snowmobiling, riding his quad, fishing and kayaking.  Bishop is survived by wife Linda, son Mitchell, grandson Bishop Auren, brother Richard (Sue) and Frankie (Lynn) and sister Anita.  Bishop is predeceased by parents Frank and Stella, daughter Laura Hazel and son Bishop Fernand.  He also leaves behind nieces Stella, Jennifer, Amber, Meggie, Katie, Alicia, Jessica, Erika and nephews David, Curtis and Jordan.  A special Thank You to the Renal Staff at the Thunder Bay Hospital for their dedication, professionalism and compassion which was evident every time we walked in for dialysis treatment.

In honour of Bishop, we will be holding a Celebration of Life BBQ for family and friends (time and place TBD)
