Bruno Laval Joseph Létourneau

Bruno Laval Joseph Létourneau, 79, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by the care and love of his family.

Bruno was born on May 18, 1945, in St-Ludger, Québec, to Wilfrid and Thérèse (Fillion) Létourneau. He grew up on the family homestead with 10 siblings, embracing the values of his roots and upbringing.

He cherished life’s simpler pleasures and found joy in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, skiing, biking, gardening and he took great pleasure in cooking. Bruno was especially passionate about working with his hands, displaying exceptional skill and creativity as a carpenter and craftsman.

Family was at the heart of Bruno’s life. He took immense pride in his three children—Stéphan, Julie, and Stacy as well as in his daughter-in-law Francoise and son-in-law James. He deeply valued the time spent with his family,and his love for them was unwavering.

After leaving home, Bruno worked as a mechanic on highway construction projects in the Montreal area. From 1968 to 1978, he moved his family to the United States, where he worked in the construction industy as a drywall finisher. Upon returning to Quebec, he took on various construction roles, including installing windows, and operating a bakery equipment repair business.

In 1984, Bruno relocated to Northwestern Ontario, where he briefly worked in the forestry industry. After moving his daughters to Thunder Bay, he founded LakeLand Construction, becoming a respected "handshake" businessman known for delivering quality workmanship. His legacy endures in the many homes he built across Thunder Bay and its surrounding areas.

In 2001, Bruno expanded his family to include his love and partner, Joanne Armstrong, and her children, Twyla and Trent, along with their families.

Bruno will always be remembered for his kind and calm nature, his ability to truly listen, his sense of humor, and his incredible strength and resilience as he faced numerous health challenges over the past decade.

He leaves behind cherished memories with his granddaughters Érika, Allyson, Sabrina, Carine, Alice, and Rosie, as well as his great-granddaughter Esme. He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Laurence (Nicole), Mario (Clara), Christian, Dorette, Sylviane, Francine (Otto), Lynda (Yves), and Patricia (Mario), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bruno was predeceased by his parents, Wilfrid and Thérèse (Fillion) Létourneau; his brother Gérald; his sister Jovette; his brother-in-law Cyrille Pelletier, and his sister-in-law Judy Letourneau.

As per Bruno’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family gathering has taken place in Thunder Bay, with another planned for summer 2025 in Québec.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
