The family of Catherine Harnden sadly announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother at TBRHSC on Tuesday, March 21, following a brief illness.
Born March 2, 1929. Cathy was raised in Port Arthur and met her husband William Harnden while at a sports event in Fort William. Married in 1950, Cathy and Bill moved to Beardmore, Ontario where they raised their family. While living there she worked in her family business, Salems, Pommier Drug Store and the Maple Leaf Restaurant. Moving to Thunder Bay in 1973, Cathy enjoyed meeting and talking to new people while working at Kmart and the Lottery Store at County Fair Plaza.
In her spare time Cathy was an avid reader, liked to try her luck at the Casino and challenge crossword puzzles. The magical medicine of the casino always put a pep in her step! She was not like an old lady but more of a battle tested warrior queen. Most of all, Cathy loved to spend time with her family, whom she adored and loved immensely.
Cathy touched many lives and if you had the wonderful gift of meeting her, you know she loved to chat, had a great sense of humour, was bold, strong and full of zest. She will be missed by many.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill, sons Donny and David, brother Nicky Zavaglia, and her parents Frank and Amelia.
Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her children Ricky (Cheryl), Cheryl (Jim), Bev (Vern), daughter-in-law Kathryn; grandchildren Rob (Amy), Dawn (Louie), Frankie, Jesse (Leena), Zachary, Amanda (Dave), Michael (Andrea), Kathleen (Richard), Daniel, Jennifer; 9 great grandchildren and by many great friends, especially Leona Whitley.
Cremation has taken place and as per Cathy's wishes, no service will be held.
