November 15, 1934 – April 12, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Chaman Lal Kapoor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and gentle soul, on April 12, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Peshawar, India, on November 15, 1934, Chaman Lal was a man of quiet strength, boundless kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a chemical engineer by profession, and in 1966, he immigrated to Canada, where he first settled in Red Rock, Ontario, working at Domtar pulp and paper mill. He and his loving wife, Uma Kapoor, began building a life together, and it was during this time that their sons Sanjay and Vinay were born in nearby Nipigon, Ontario.

The Kapoor family later moved to Thunder Bay, where Chaman Lal continued his work at Calgon and Betz Corporation, supporting pulp and paper mills throughout northwestern Ontario. It was in Thunder Bay that their daughter, Sabina, was born 12 years after her brothers, completing their family.

A lifelong believer in the power of education, Chaman placed great importance on learning and personal growth. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, perseverance, and excellence, encouraging each of them to pursue professional careers with purpose and pride. His guidance and support laid the foundation for everything they have accomplished.

Chaman Lal and Uma recently celebrated 59 beautiful years of marriage on March 10, 2025 — a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Chaman Lal will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, and gentle spirit. He had a way of making those around him feel seen, supported, and deeply loved. He was our rock, our quiet guide, and our greatest blessing.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Uma; his children, Sanjay (Anita), Vinay (Anna), and Sabina (Vishal); and his cherished grandchildren, Raveena, Simran, Sameer, Naveen, Ayla, and Alivya. His legacy of love, resilience, and grace will live on through them and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Memorial visitation to celebrate Chaman's life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street where words of tribute will be offered at 6 p.m..  As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.
