CHARLENE ANN WALLIN
July 31, 1953 - May 15, 2024
The family and close friends of CHARLENE ANN WALLIN sadly share the news of her death, on Wednesday May 15, 2024, at Hogarth Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay, ON, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Terrace Bay, ON, on July 31, 1953, to Bill and Belle Wallin, Charlene enjoyed an idyllic, small-town childhood. As an only child, she looked forward, each summer, to the time spent with her extended family, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, in Kenora, ON. Of special importance to Charlene were her visits with her paternal grandmother, at the family island on Lake of the Woods, where she was taught how to make her fabulous Swedish bread.
Following the completion of her elementary and secondary education, Charlene attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, ON where she earned her BA and BEd.
She spent the early years of her teaching career at Dorion Public School and, from there, moved on to Red Rock Public School, where she remained until her retirement in 2007. “Missy”, as Charlene was affectionately known by students and parents, alike, was an exceptional educator, loved and respected by those with whom she came into contact throughout her long career. Charlene was, also, an ardent union member and spent many years in service with FWTAO, which, later, became ETFO.
In her younger years, Charlene was an avid downhill skier and made numerous treks to the more challenging ski hills in Alberta and BC, after conquering all the hills Thunder Bay had to offer.
As a volunteer, Charlene was second to none, offering her time to her school, her church, the town, her friends, family and neighbours. Her generosity was unending; she would appear at the homes of family and friends with containers of her renowned shortbread cookies, lemon poppyseed loaves and cherry dump cakes. Often, she showed up with enough toilet paper and paper towels for 3 months as well as boxes of tea.
Charlene was predeceased by her beloved parents, Bill and Belle Wallin, her grandparents, her dear cousin, Arlene Anderson, and numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members.
Left to mourn her passing are her close friends, Barry, Leesa and Helen and her dear cousins, Janie and Sandra, as well as other extended family members.
Charlene will be cremated and interment will be in the family plot, in Kenora, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Hogarth Riverview Manor (1 NORTH DAFFODIL) or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Charlene’s friends and cousins would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Nipigon District Memorial Hospital (ACUTE CARE UNIT), and at Hogarth Riverview Manor (1 NORTH DAFFODIL) for the excellent care afforded to her over the past 16 months.
