What a beautiful life. After an incredible 72 trips around the sun, on November 4, 2024, Cosmo Veneziale returned to the universe, taking his place in the cosmos after which he was named.

Cosmo loved telling stories, so we are going to tell you his.

Once upon a time, a handsome, olive-skinned, green-eyed boy was born in Italy, the first son of Emilia and Michele Veneziale. He spent his early years in the family garden, where his dad perched him in the branches of a fruit tree to keep him out of trouble. When he was 7, his parents and family crossed the seas to start a new life in Canada, fighting off scary beasts such as soggy wonderbread sandwiches and watery coffee as they forged their new lives in Fort William, holding true to their traditional Italian ways.

Soon, Cosmo grew up. Not too much though. He was always the shortest member of the basketball team. His uncle told him that if he planted his feet and watered them, he would grow taller. Despite his best efforts, he never reached the 6 feet he aspired to.

One night, Cosmo went to a dance. He met a beautiful redhead named Katie who believed him when he said he was, in fact, 6 feet tall, so obviously, he asked her out. Cosmo and Katie fell in love, had 3 beautiful children, and lived happily ever after.

But that is not the end.

There is so much more to this story than we could ever fit into these lines. How do you sum up a life so well lived in mere words? We could tell you what he did- he was a real estate agent. We could tell you what he loved-  fishing, hunting, gardening, planting milkweed and raising monarchs, to name a few. We could tell you that he packed more into every day than most people do in a week, that he never missed a single one of his kids’ or grandkids' activities, that he loved buttered popcorn and KFC and watching hummingbirds, that he would take photos of nature and even had a whole album he titled ‘Underneath my Feet’, which captured the various landscapes he walked across all over the world in his many travels with his Katie.

Even if we told you that he loved gazing at the stars, that he loved learning about the vastness of space and that he knew that energy, even his, cannot be created or destroyed- we would barely scratch the surface. To be loved by Cosmo was to be touched by a love so vast that it never ends, and we will continue to see him in every bumblebee, every butterfly, and every rainbow.

Cosmo is survived by his wife Kate of 50 years, children Kevin (Patricia), Kristen (Lucas), Kimberly (Cory), and Michael (Loredana); grandchildren Adam, Erin, Julia (Mitch), Alandra (Bella), Nicolas, Corbin, Caelyn, Xander, and great-grandson Noah; his mother Emilia, sister Maria (Bruno) and nephews Donato (Haley) and Adrian (Nissa). Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He is predeceased by his father Michele Veneziale.

Join us for a grand farewell to Cosmo- our dad, our nonno, our brother, our zio, our son and our husband. A celebration of life will take place at Fort William Historical Park in MacGillvary’s Landing on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 1-4 PM, with words of tribute offered at 2:00PM. You’d better believe there will be snacks- Cos wouldn’t have had it any other way.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the RFDA, PACE, and Grace Place would be greatly appreciated.

If I could make days last forever

If words could make wishes come true

I'd save every day like a treasure and then

Again, I would spend them with you

Jim Croce
