Daryl Jean Lein (née McLellan), age 77, a long-time resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at Pioneer Ridge with her son by her side.

Born at the Port Arthur General Hospital on June 17, 1947, her family lived in Red Rock, Ontario where she attended Public School, Nip-Rock District High School, and graduated in 1969 with a BSc in biology from Lakehead University.

She is survived by her son Alexander and grandchildren Nicholas and Russell of Mississauga, her ex-husband Philip Lein, her brother Ken McLellan (Betty) and nieces Allison and Ashleigh and nephew Adam, of Thunder Bay. She was predeceased by her father, William Charles McLellan, her mother, Jean Mortimer (Kennedy) and her brother, Robin Lauchie McLellan.

In her younger years, Daryl enjoyed camping on motorcycle trips to both coasts and managed a bit of SCUBA diving as well. She was employed by Business Printing until her retirement. Daryl had legendary organizational skills, and a wicked sense of humour. A private person, she never told anyone of her generosity in regular donations to different charities.

Neighbourhood clean-up was important to Daryl and she joined in with a group of like-minded individuals a couple of times per month (when the ground was free of snow), picking up trash from the street and back lanes in her area. She was a member of Neighbourhood Watch and for a number of years, was involved with the Thunder Bay Business Women's Network.

Aside from TV and reading, she was an active and indispensable member of the Lakehead Stamp Club serving in the capacity of Secretary, Treasurer, and assorted other positions over the years including arranging for donations for various draws the Club would have throughout the year. She was able to attend a couple of annual meetings of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and in Winnipeg she submitted a well received display on a Canadian Theme.

She will be remembered by friends and members of the community she touched with her generous nature.

A graveside service will be held on Friday July 26, 2024 at 1pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3200 Oliver Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Canada would be appreciated.
