Mrs. Deborah Barkman, age 55 years and member of Sachigo Lake First Nation, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
Deborah was born in Wapekeka, Ontario on November 26, 1968. She met Wesley Barkman and they were married on January 12, 1988, building a beautiful life together. Deborah dedicated her life to taking care of her family and providing a home full of love and wonderful times. Deborah's kindness, smile and big heart will be missed, but the memories shared with her will be cherished forever.
Deborah is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Wesley; children Hannah, Pamela and Shania; grandchildren Lukas, Katie, Patrisha, Amiya, Ian, Israel and Andrea; Godson Donovan Beardy and his son Caylix; siblings Gladys (Agrippa) Barkman, Jennifer (Dennis) Fox, Frankie (Susan) McKay and Hilary (Brent) Simms. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Jeannie McKay; her siblings Carol (Norman) Brown, Gwendolyn (Solomon) Fox, John (Evelyn) McKay, Stanley (Ida) McKay, and Ivan (Jenny) McKay as well as numerous other relatives and extended family.
A Wake Service for Deborah will be held in Thunder Bay on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 10:00am until 12:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Colin Kanate.
Deborah will then be transported home to Sachigo Lake First Nation where a Wake will be held beginning Friday evening in Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. The Funeral Service will be held in the Church on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 12:00pm, officiated by Pastor Wilfred Moar. Burial will follow in the Sachigo Lake New Community Cemetery.
