It is with great sadness that our husband, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully, with family by his side on August 28, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born December 12, 1953, in Fort William, Dennis attended Selkirk High School and then followed in his father’s footsteps and went to Trade school to become a carpenter. While working as a carpenter Dennis worked for various roofing and construction companies. Later he changed career paths and worked from counterperson to Manager at Galaxy Lanes for many years until he retired. He loved helping the Galaxy YBC bowlers and would spend countless hours on the lanes with anyone who wanted to improve. He took great pride in watching them compete in National Championships.

Dennis loved sports, playing hockey and baseball as a kid along with his greatest passions, bowling and golf. He competed in many National Championships in 5 pin bowling, being selected to the National All-Star team 4 times. Some of his greatest memories are the lifelong friendships he made across the country. When not in a bowling center or on a golf course, Dennis would spend his time with his partner and best friend of 42 years Brenda. They enjoyed travelling, golf vacations, casino stops and just spending time at home with their two dogs and cat.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents Johnny and Sue Umakoshi, brother-in-law Frank Vignuda, and younger brother Stanley Umakoshi.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Brenda Hummel, sister Geraldine Vignuda and brother Bruce (Nancy) Umakoshi. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew Susan (Raf) Zgolak, John Vignuda (Mahogany), Sarah Umakoshi, Amber (Matthew) Laudone, Courtney Umakoshi (Kemar), Suzanne, Sierra and great nieces and nephew Lucas, Tinley, Ava, Tahlia and Juliette. He will also be missed by numerous cousins and friends, especially his best buddy Luigi Renzi.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at TBRHSC for their care and compassion. A very special thank you goes to the nursing staff on 1A for their exceptional end-of-life care during this difficult time.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at The DaVinci Centre, 340 Waterloo St on Friday September 13 th , 2024, from 1pm-4pm. If friends so desire, a donation can be made to the TBRHSC Palliative Care Fund or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
