It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Domenic Robert Barbiero on Friday, April 27, 2018.
Domenic was born on April 12, 1972 to Shirley and Natale Barbiero. He graduated from St. Patrick high School and the Child and Youth Worker program at Confederation College. He was employed as an SSP with the Lakehead Board of Education and as a peer mediator co-ordinator with the John Howard Society at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute, where he was a go-to person for staff and students alike.
He provided a safe place where everyone would receive kind words, caring advice and encouragement with a fist bump and a smile.
Growing up, Domenic enjoyed soccer, hanging out with friends, playing the drums in his basement, road hockey with the Parkway boys and spending time with family. Domenic worked as a porter at the DaVinci Centre, where he made many lifelong friends. His love for people made him a great employee, holding jobs at the Creighton Centre, group homes, Dilico and security. Dom enjoyed coaching football and soccer at all levels in the community.
Domenic is survived by his loving wife Sue, son Zach, his most cherished mother Shirley and father Natale, brother Kevin (Daniela) and nephew Oliver; Robert (Terry) Olmstead, Angela, Erin, Kelly and families; Giuseppe (Maria) Barbiero, Andy, Jim and families; Salvatore Barbiero, Silvana Commisso, Rosie, Nadia, Domenic and families; Santina (Salvatore) Carsicano, Vittorio and family; mother- and father-in law Ronna and Robert Humphreys and family; sister-in-law Lisa (John) Bonacci and family; brother-in-law Ron (Molly) Humphreys and family; and many long-time friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Robert and Carmel Olmstead, Domenic and Rosina Barbiero.
Dom was a family man and his life was complete the day he married Sue and became a father to Zach and their dog Curly. His daily visits and calls to his mother will be forever missed as will his infectious smile and laugh. Dom, an incredible man, made an impression on every person he met. Let’s continue his legacy by spreading love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held at St. Dominic’s Church on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. Should friends desire, donations can go directly to the family in memory of Domenic Barbiero.
