Domenico Bet
1931 - 2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather Domenico Bet at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on September 14, 2016.

Domenico was born in Pravisdomini, Udine, Italy, on March 13, 1931 where he was raised and educated. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1949 he worked in various trades and in 1964 he began working at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, until his retirement in 1990.

In 1955 he married Adriana (Favot), who had also immigrated from Italy, and with whom he proudly celebrated 61 years of marriage this past May.

Domenico had many passions in life. He enjoyed fishing, partridge and duck hunting, was an avid bridge player and he excelled in bowling, bocce and shuffleboard. He was a perfectionist when it came to growing flowers and vegetables and in 2010 was awarded the City of Thunder Bay Contributions to Civic Pride Award for Vegetable Gardens. Domenico was a generous man who loved to share the “fruits of his labour” from his garden and a glass of wine with friends and neighbours.

His happiest times were those he shared with his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to tell you how proud he was of all their achievements and supported them unconditionally. You could see his eyes light up and beam with pride when he spoke about them.

Domenico is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Adriana and his children Cathy (Rick) Boroviak, Angie Bet (Guy Henry), Dina (Tom) Swanson. Nonno will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Dayna and Jaimie Lee Boroviak, Nadine and Bianca Schiavone, Joey and Jonathan Swanson. He is also survived by siblings: Antonio, Clara, Tranquilla, Franca and Paola, (Italy), by in-laws and spouses: Len and Fern, Edda and Ron, Enos and Gail, and by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Domenico was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Maria Bet, his siblings Angela, Benito, Bruna, Maria, Giuseppe “Joe” and Amelia and his mother-and father in-law Assunta and Antonio Favot.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street, followed by a reception.

A private interment will be held at a later date. Visitation for friends will be held for 1 hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations to the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre, the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.

Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
