It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald ‘Don’ Charles Piché, age 74 years, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Pinewood Court with his family by his side.
Don was born in Espanola, Ontario to Patricia (nee: Landry) and Anthime Piché on October 18, 1948. He started school at a one-room schoolhouse in McKarrow, then continued on to Espanola Highschool. It was during his high school days that he met the love of his life and future wife, Lynda. The two were inseparable, wherever Don was, Lynda was never far behind; and vice versa.
Don graduated from the Sault College Diesel Mechanics program and went on to work at E.B. Eddy Pulp and Paper mill in Espanola. In 1976, he came to Thunder Bay to work for Great Lakes Paper Company and the startup of B Bleach. He continued to learn throughout his career and eventually received his Pulp and Paper Technologist Diploma from the International Career School.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp on Lake Shebandowan. Here, there was always a project or a neighbour that needed a hand and he was always willing to lend his expertise. Winters were spent doing research and development for upcoming summer projects and taking breaks to enjoy snowmobile rides. Summers were spent executing the plans he had spent all winter perfecting, water sports, and of course fishing with his boys.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 48 years: Lynda (nee Biederman); two sons: James (Jennifer) and Kurtis (Katie); granddaughters: Charlotte, Piper, and Georgia; sisters: Viola Deschamps, Sylvia Larstone (Lawrence), and Elaine Piché. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents Anthime and Patricia; as well as his sister: Louise.
As per Don’s wishes, cremation and a private family service have taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Don may be made to a charity of your choice.
