With extreme broken hearts and sorrow, we announce that our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Donna Hamilton, age 78 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in St. Joseph’s Care Group on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024.
Donna was born in Kenora, Ontario on May 3rd, 1946, to Dolly and Ken Jennings. She met Alexander Hamilton locally in Thunder Bay, and together they married on November 20th, 1965 building a beautiful, loving, family-oriented life with one another. The love they had shared for one another was timeless, authentic and built with an unbreakable foundation. They always spoke about “being never being able to be apart from one another” and with that, Donna and Alexander Hamilton, passed away within four short days of each other; a true, bittersweet, love story. Donna and Alex’s life revolved around the love and dedication they had for their children, family and friends. Donna loved hosting large gatherings at her house and always ensured everyone was well taken care of and had smiles on their faces. She was a natural care-taker with such a loving touch. Donna had a special thirst for life; she enjoyed dancing to her favorite 50’s music, Friday night date nights with Alex at the Westfort Prosvita (a lifetime member) or the Branch 6 Legion, her occasional casino run, Saturday night TV Hagi Bingo, playing cards/poker and watching all her favorite horror movies with her grandchildren. For those of you who knew Donna, knew she was an extremely talented knitter. She specialized in knitting clothing items and baby blankets; and had a passion for making the most beautiful baby sweaters and matching hats. Donna worked for many years at Versa Care Centre, retiring as a Dietary Aid. She had a passion for working with her wonderful co-workers and the elderly, too. Donna loved life no matter how difficult it may have gotten for her, she was grateful for each day as she saw the beautiful things of this world as a gift from god.
Donna will be deeply missed by her daughters Shelley Prystanski and Stacey Hamilton; brother George Jennings (Moe); grandchildren Ryley Melnychuk (Marlo), Keltie Ford (Joe), Chelsea Hamilton (Alex), Kortnie MacLeod, and Hayley Hamilton (Justin) and great grandchildren Mercedes, Nash, Isla, Hunter and Lily, whom she loved each so dearly and unconditionally. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years Alexander Hamilton, her beautiful daughter Sheri Hamilton; mother and father Dolly and Ken Jennings, mother-in-law and father in-law Sandy and Ada Hamilton, brother Donald Jennings and sister-in-law Sandra Qualie.
A big, heartfelt, thank you to Dr. Faghih, Dr. Ward, the nurses at TBRHSC & St Joseph’s Care Group, and Donna’s cousin Lynda Farquharson for always taking the best care of her and ensuring she was comfortable and calm during every stage of life.
