It is with heavy hearts that the family of Doreen Joyce Filipuzzi (nee Juhola) announce her passing, peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Monday, August 12, 2024, shortly after her 88th birthday.

Doreen was born on August 2, 1936 in Fort William, Ontario and was a life-time resident of the Westfort community. She met Erminio “Butch” Filipuzzi and they were married on July 16, 1956 spending 63 years together until his passing in 2019. Doreen dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a beautiful home for them on Mary Street.

Mom enjoyed many activities including baseball, swimming, skating and bowling. She especially loved spending time at the family camp in Shebandowan. Mom was very crafty, and in her spare time loved sewing, crocheting, baking, knitting and needlepoint. She will be deeply missed by all of our family and friends.

Mom will be forever missed by her daughters, Diane (Bill), Linda, Cathy (Dom) and son Gary; grandchildren, Stewart (Nicole), Billy (Amber), Kara (Kevin), Jenn (Jeff), Reis (Kim) and Chad; great-grandchildren, Everett, Cleo, Emma, Lillie and Ava Joy, as well as sister-in-law Yolanda Drzystek and extended family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Erminio Filipuzzi; her parents Leonard and Esther Juhola; sister Lorraine Aho and her husband Ted; sister-in-law Teresa Hrynyk and her husband John, brother-in-law Ted Drzystek and grandson Kyle McKillop.

We would like to thank the staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor – Spruce Grove Unit for the loving care provided to Mom, and to Dr. Ibrahim and the staff at the TBRHSC - Cancer Clinic. We are also very grateful to all of Mom's wonderful neighbours for their help over the years.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Doreen Filipuzzi will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held in Mountainview Cemetery. For those unable to attend the service, a video recording will be available on the Everest of Thunder Bay beginning Monday afternoon.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Doreen to the Canadian Cancer Society or Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
