It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Doreen, dearly loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and niece, at home on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at the age of 72.
Doreen was born on January 30, 1953, in Carberry, MB to Arden & Marjorie Goodmurphy. The family moved to Ontario when she was a young child. Doreen moved to Nipigon in 1968 to attend Nip-Rock High School. It was there that she met her late husband, Fred. Doreen and Fred were high school sweethearts and married in July 1971 in Schrieber, ON. From this union she was blessed with three children, Darrel, Debbie and Robert.
Doreen worked various jobs throughout her life while raising three children. She will be fondly remembered for her knitting and crocheting, as every girl in the family had an “Auntie Doe” ringlet winter hat and many have cherished mementos. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of delicious homemade bread, buns, cabbage rolls, perogies, egg rolls, Chinese food and delicious desserts which she shared with family and friends. We are thankful that Doreen has passed down her recipes and skills to her children and grandchildren. Doreen cared for and made meals for seniors and volunteered her time to help the seniors in Nipigon Hospital LTC play bingo. She was a caregiver at heart. No matter how she was feeling or what was going on, she was always available to help anyone in need. Doreen loved playing cards and going to bingo. She would often be the first one to pull out a deck of cards after any family meal or when family got together. A card game was never played unless there was money on the line. Mom always said her grandchildren were born with cards in their hands. They were taught at a very young age to play cards with the adults and how to lose their spending money to Grandma. She enjoyed camping with her family and later hunting with her husband. She liked country music, Big Brother, Animal planet and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Doreen is survived by her children, Darrel (Ashley) Turner of Victoria, BC, Debbie (Mark) O’Connor of Red Rock, ON and Robert (Brigitte) Turner of Richer, MB. Her Grandchildren, Toni Skinner, Nicholas Ranger, Stephanie Tetreault, Adam Turner, Cory Turner, David O’Connor, Trace O’Connor, Cedrik Gaujean, Justin & Nicholas Krause. Her great-grandchildren Chloe Tutt, Deynahi Skinner, Mia & Paris Tetreault, Harper Krause and Heavenly Turner. Her siblings, Marilyn (Andy) Herold, Lloyd (Teresa) Goodmurphy, Beverly (Justin) Martin and Karen Godin (Randy Diotte). Her sisters-in-law Theresa (Baggy) Laframboise, Joanne (Keith) Robinson, Linda Turner (Lorne) and a very special uncle, Calvin Seabrook. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband Fred Turner (2005), her parents, Arden & Marjorie Goodmurphy, parents-in-law Oscar & Annette Turner, brother-in-law Rejean Godin, nephew David Godin, sister-in-law Frances (late Orville) Lacasse, brother-in-law Gerald Turner.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00a.m. at St. Hilary Catholic Church, Red Rock, ON. Interment will follow the service at Cliffside Cemetery in Nipigon, ON.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in mom’s memory can be made to the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Though you are gone, the love you gave us remains, a beautiful reminder of your presence in our lives.
