Dorothy Nesbitt passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the age of 96. The beloved wife for 62 years to Craig (predeceased), and loving mother of Jamey (Lori) of Brampton, Bruce (Pat) of Thunder Bay, and Alan (Kathy) of Mississauga. She was a very proud grandmother of Kali Branget (Dylan) and Ryan (Andrew) and she is fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Shirley. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Smith and her brothers Wallace Sherriff, Donald Sherriff, and Alan Sherriff.
Dorothy was a dedicated teacher, having graduated from the University of Toronto. She worked for the Lakehead District School Board, where she taught a majority of her career at Hillcrest High School, retiring in 1988 after 27 years. In her retirement she was an active volunteer at St. John's Anglican Church and the Missions to Seafarers, Port of Thunder Bay. The family wishes to thank the staff of Chartwell Arundel whose acts of kindess made Dorothy feel right at home. Additionally, Jamey and Alan would like to express their personal gratitude to Bruce and Pat for their compassionate care over the past years.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m., at Gathering Table, 228 Pearl Street. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband Craig in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a contribution be made in Dorothy's memory to a charity of your choice.
