It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Richard Harman announces his passing on December 24, 2015 at 66 years of age, after a brief battle with cancer. Doug passed away at TBRHSC with family by his side.

Doug was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on September 14, 1949, and was the youngest of 3 children. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed country music including festivals, travelling the US racing circuit, as well as spending time with his family and many friends.

He always had a passion for fast cars and was a race car builder, owner, and driver in the Hobby Stock, Diamond, and Street Modified classes for over 20 years at Riverview Raceway until 1993.

Doug retired from Bombardier in April 2009 after 34 years of service. He had a big loving heart and was always willing to help others. Known as a practical joker, he always had the best witty comments, and smart ass comebacks. Doug had the patience to tinker in the garage for hours, but if things didn't go his way, watch out for that hair pin fuse. He was a loving father of two daughters and five grandchildren. He is loved and will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Doug is survived by his daughters; Dawn and Shannan (St Thomas), sister; Betty (Morris) Whittingham, grandchildren; Rydge & Cassie (St Thomas), Joshua, Logan, and Tori, nephews; Wayne (Kathy), Rod (Bernice), Dennis (Donna), Barry (Marge) Whittingham, and Brad Whittingham, as well as many great nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends; Bob Bindles (California), and Brian Larrett as well as many others. (Too many to list or the paper would be full, but you know who you are.) Doug is predeceased by his parents Jack and Vera Harman, brother John Harman, and former wife Marilyn Quaid (nee Boyko).

Many thanks to staff at TBRHSC emergency department and 1A for their support, compassion and professionalism. The family would also like to thank the many friends (again too many to list) who visited Doug during his stay at the hospital. It was those visits that kept his spirits up during his last few weeks of life.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date. An Announcement will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's memory to TBRHSF, Northern Cancer Fund.

Online condolences may be made at harbourviewfuneral.ca
