Mrs. Edith Mary Hayes (nee Siminic) passed away peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Sunday, January 14, 2024, with her family by her side. She was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in 2002, beating all odds set out by the doctors, living to the age of 92.

Edith, or Bubba as she was known, was born in Fort William on August 29, 1931 and raised on the family farm in Blake Township. She was educated locally and raised her family of 4 children in Westfort. Edith worked as a second cook on the cargo ships for years, before moving to Upsala, working at Betty's Restaurant until it closed. She then came back to Thunder Bay, living at Spence Court. For the last 4 years, Edith resided in Hogarth Riverview Manor. She was a devout Catholic and her faith was very important to her. She was a longtime member of St. Agnes Parish.

Edith leaves behind her 4 children, David (Carmelita), Wayne, Ronald (Denise) and Barbra (Scott) Nelson; 6 grandchildren, Robert, Jackie, Leslie-Ann, Amanda, Bryan and Brandon; 5 great-grandchildren as well as her sister-in-law Doreen Brown, nieces Mary Homer, Elaine Wos, Carol Gleeson and Elaine Bolton, nephew Tom Wos and numerous extended family.

She was predeceased by former husband and good friend, Brian Hayes (March 2016); her only sibling, Ann Wos; daughters-in-law Virginia Hayes and Kathryn Hayes; sister-in-law Ann Peppard, brother-in-law Douglas Peppard; nieces Patricia Sirkunen, Albina Comte, Rosemary Mihalich, nephew Michael Wos and nephews-in-law Glascow Homer, Mike Gleeson and Terry Bolton.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at 7-South, Hogarth Riverview Manor for their loving care of Mom. Thank you as well to the staff of Everest - Westfort Chapel for their compassion and guidance through this difficult time.

Funeral Services for Edith will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 with family and friends gathering in St. Agnes Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00am. The service will be livestreamed on the St. Agnes Church Facebook page. A private interment will take place later in Upsala.

Should friends so desire, donations made in Edith's name to Hogarth Riverview Manor (payable to St. Joseph's Care Group) would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
