With incredible grief for our loss, yet deep gratitude for the life he shared with us, we announce the passing of Edward Louis Macchi, on Friday, August 16, 2024, surrounded by his family in prayer.

Eddie was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on June 3, 1937. He attended St. Joseph school and Port Arthur Collegiate Institute, and went on to study accounting which became his lifelong career. Eventually he retired from Lakehead Diesel & Hydraulics after 25 years.

Eddie was a true family man, always eager to help. A gentle, humble, loving husband and father, he was filled with love, especially for his wife, soulmate and best friend Sarah. He was beyond proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. An intelligent man, with a witty sense of humour, Eddie was brilliant with numbers. He was curious, energetic and genuinely filled with joy. He had a passion for music and few knew that he also had a beautiful voice, which continues to live on through his granddaughters. A devout and reverent Roman Catholic, he dedicated many years of service to St. Dominic Parish and the Diocese of Thunder Bay. Eddie was a quiet example of unwavering faith.

Eddie is survived by his wife Sarah of 64 years and his six children Christina, Frank (Janis), Rosemarie, Louise (Sam), Catherine (Dave), Sarah (Torben); Grandchildren Emily, Julia, Megan, Tara, Peter, Michael, Grace, Sophia, and Anna; in-laws Mary, Faye, Joe & Linda Figliomeni, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father Rose  & Louis Macchi, sister Mary (Ernie) Slongo, mother and father-in-law Rosa & Frank Figliomeni, and brothers-in-law Cos and Jim Figliomeni.

The Funeral Mass for Eddie will be held on Friday, August 23 at 11 AM at St. Dominic Church celebrated by Father Mike Mahoney and concelebrated by Monsignor Pat Stilla. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so by joining the family at the reception in the St. Dominic Church hall immediately after the Funeral Mass. A private interment will take place following the luncheon. In memory of Eddie, donations can be made to Saint Dominic Church.
