The family of Edwin G. Almgren are deeply saddened and with regret advise the death of their Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend. Eddie passed at the Nipigon District Hospital after a hard fought battle with cancer, the cancer won the battle on October 18, 2023 with his family by his side holding his hands.

Eddie was born 1941 in Kakabeka Falls. Eddie started working as a very young lad on a farm for the summers, then went on to working at a few garages in Kakabeka. After high school he got his scaler licence and went to work for Great Lakes Co. in the Black Sturgeon area. He often left the bush in the dark just so he could play hockey in the house league around Kakabeka. That is where the hockey scouts found him and asked him to play for the Red Rock Royals which they were part of the North Shore Hockey League. He was guaranteed a job at the Red Rock mill if he would play hockey for them, there was no question about taking the offer because he loved playing hockey that much. His skating was exceptional and effortless, he just floated when he had his skates on.

He started working at the mill at the bottom job in the paper machines, Eddie retired as assistant superintendent of the paper machines, he was very proud of the fact that his hard work was recognized and that he was promoted up to the top job. On the job he was a no nonsense kind of guy and expected all the other employees be as dedicated as he was.

He met Dawn in Red Rock and they raised 3 children - Brent, Gary and Treena. He was a very generous and proud family man.

Eddie was a very skilled carpenter, cabinet maker and all around Mr. fix it, there wasn't much he couldn't figure out and fix. He left his mark in may places. Eddie was especially proud of the fact that all three of his children inherited his carpentry talents, especially his daughter.

Eddie is survived by his wife Dawn, sons - Brent (N.S.) and Gary, daughter Treena (Shawn)/(Nipigon). Six grandchildren - Skylar, Brett, Kassidy, Darian, Carter, Cher Wilson (B.C.). Seven great grandchildren, two brothers Gordon and Rod, one sister Lorraine (Gabby Harvey) all from Thunder Bay and many special nieces and nephews.

Eddie was predeceased by his infant son Kevin, parents Eveline and Gunnar Almgren, two brothers Doug and Dennis Almgren.

As per Eddie's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A family celebration will take place in the Spring.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Nipigon Hospital who attended to Eddie with kindness and compassion which made his last days easier and pain free. Special thanks to his nurse Wendy H. for all her care when Eddie was at home.
