Mr. Edwin James Gingras passed away suddenly at the age of 73. He was the first born son to Lorenzo (Bonzo) Gingras and Mary Gingras (nee Burke) of Donatville, Alberta.
Edwin grew up in the small village of Donatville, Alberta helping out on the family homestead and farm in his early years.
In 1964, wanting to expand his horizons, he found himself looking for employment in NWO and landed a job teaching in the small native community of Pic Mobert. There he met and married Florena Brown (nee Padgena).
From there they moved to Manitouwadge, Ontario where he shifted into the mining industry for a number of years. Unfortunate circumstances in his career choice brought him to Thunder Bay where he found employment at Canada Post in the sorting division until his retirement in 2007.
You can take the boy out of the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the boy.
Edwin was an avid gardener in his younger years and always had his very own garden patch somewhere in his back yard, producing mighty fine crops. When gardening became too difficult for Edwin he took on the virtual world of Farmville and diligently looked after his numerous farms with a new virtual green thumb.
He is survived by his children Conrad Brown (Donna) and Elizabeth Brown- Larameé (Réal); grandchildren Aaron and Leanna Larameé; mother Mary Burke; former wife and friend Florena Brown; brothers Eugene (Elaine), Grant (Lorna), Brian and Marty; sister Donna Tollenaar (Lon); aunt Ena McNamara; uncle Jim Burke and aunt Lucy Atkinson and numerous nieces and nephews. Edwin was predeceased by his father Lorenzo (Bonzo) Gingras (1995) and sister Doreen (1948).
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at 750 Dog Lake Road with Deacon Steve Hansen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
