Eila Green, age 84, passed away peacefully at her Thunder Bay home with her sons at her side on Tuesday, February 16th.

A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Eila was born on March 20, 1932 to Arvo and Matilda Tuomi, both very active members of the Finnish community. She married Paterson Green in 1955 and has two sons Bruce and Larry. She worked for many years at Lakehead University as the Forestry Department secretary and previous to that in the main Library.

Throughout her life her primary focus was on her family and friends, and actively supported them as a volunteer and advocate for a wide range of activities and interests including fundraising for the Boy Scouts, helping out at YMCA swim meets and Shuniah school library, #1 fan behind the glass at the Port Arthur Curling Club, and long term primary caregiver for her elderly mother. Eila especially enjoyed travelling with her friends to Finland, Europe, and the Caribbean. Those were very special times for her.

Eila is survived by her children Bruce (wife Barbara), Larry (wife Cindy), and grandson William. She was predeceased by her husband Pat and her parents Arvo and Matilda.

As per Eila’s request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Eila’s memory to the Northern Cancer Fund or a charity of their choice would be most appreciated.
