It is with profound sadness that the family of Eleanor Cannon (nee Martin) announces her passing on January 26, 2023 with her loving family at her side. Eleanor was born July 30, 1926 in Port Arthur and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. She was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Church and the Catholic Women's League.

She attended St. Joseph School, Port Arthur Collegiate and King's Business College. Her position with Kimberly Clark took her to Terrace Bay, where she met our Dad, who was employed by the Ministry of Lands and Forests. She dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom, returning later to the workforce as an office administrator at Local 628, where she was highly regarded by the members she fondly referred to as ‘my boys’.

Mom was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loyal friend, who touched many lives with her kindness and generosity. She was guided by her strong faith and was passionate about supporting the many charities which were dear to her heart. She faced health challenges in her later years with courage, perseverance and dignity.

Mom was an avid reader. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and discussing religious issues, current events and the financial markets. Many evenings were spent playing crib, gin rummy and bridge with friends and family. A baseball and hockey enthusiast, Mom regularly cheered on her favourite teams and rarely missed a game. We often received a call during a game alerting us to a particular play or bad call! The Jays and Leafs have lost their most ardent fan.

Family times were cherished by Mom. She looked forward to our many family gatherings and never arrived empty-handed or left a dish unwashed. Her BBQ spareribs, risotto and lemon shortbread tarts were family favourites and her recipes will continue to be shared and enjoyed.

Eleanor is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law Lesley Anne and Gabe Marcucci, Janice and Jim Anderson, Corinne and Dan Zago, Susan and Mike Biloski; grandchildren Adrianne Marcucci (Marc Ainsworth), Kathleen (Bean) Marcucci, Matthew Zago (Teddi Horst), Neal (Deanna) Zago, Mark Anderson (Liz Arbour); and great-grandchildren Oliver and Jack Ainsworth, Charlie Zago, Carter and Lennon Zago, as well as her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Leslie, her parents Bill Sr. and Rose Martin, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Helen Martin, and sisters and brothers-in-law Lena Martin, Audrey and Russell Murphy, Irma and Bill Warrack, Ron Newport, niece Maureen Murphy and nephew Paul Martin.

In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a family Funeral Mass will be celebrated. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the MS Society, TBRHSC Foundation ‘Our Hearts at Home’ Campaign, or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family expresses its deepest appreciation to Dr. Jim Scali for the excellent care Mom received over the years and to Dr. K. Raman for his dedication and kindness. Sincere thanks to Drs. Feldstein, Everall, M. Migay, Biggs and MacDonald for their professionalism and support. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, especially those who went above and beyond in attending to Mom's needs. For the home care provided to Mom by Madison (St. Elizabeth) and the PSWs (VON), the family expresses thanks, especially to Jolanta and Anne for their friendship. We are grateful to Sandy Jung for distributing Holy Communion to Mom and for her visits which brightened Mom's days, and to Fr. Mike Mahoney for attending to Mom's spiritual needs before her passing.

Arrangements are in care of Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
