GRABOWSKI

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our aunt, Elizabeth Grabowski, age 81. Aunt Liz passed away on December 1, 2023, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Aunt Liz was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956 at the young age of 14. She came to Canada with her sister Vera to be reunited with their sister Sophie.

Aunt Liz worked in various places throughout her life including One Minute Lunch, the Skyline, and Animal House and Grooming Salon, which was owned by her niece Liz. It was because of her love of animals and tropical fish that Aunt Liz went to work at the pet shop. She remained there until the store closed.

Aunt Liz was strong and determined and enjoyed the simple things. In her early years, she enjoyed mushroom and blueberry picking with her family and finding treasures at yard sales and flea markets. She also enjoyed gardening and baking. She was best known for her cookies and scones and baking shortbread cookies all year round.

Aunt Liz was an avid, lifelong reader, who enjoyed mystery novels the most. She would read her favourite books over and over again. Aunt Liz spent a part of each day sitting at the kitchen table with her coffee reading or doing a crossword/word search puzzle. Aunt Liz also enjoyed playing games and would never say no to a ‘friendly’ game of Trouble.

Aunt Liz was very creative and enjoyed doing crafts. She was a talented crocheter and will live on through her pieces that included puppets, pillowcases and animals to name a few.

Aunt Liz, you will be missed, but we take comfort in knowing that you are now with your parents and siblings.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents Johann and Pauline Grabowski, her brother Nicolas and her sisters Sophie Lupp (Hans) and Vera Molenda (Frank).

She is survived by her nieces and nephews Liz Johnston (Ian), Leo Lupp (Caroline), Eric, Ron, Rick and Linda Molenda, great-niece Stephanie Lupp-Scharer (Matthew) and great-nephew Tyler Molenda.

The family would like to thank Dr. Osman, Dr. Davenport and both the ICU and Ornge team for their exceptional care and support.

Cremation has taken place and Elizabeth will be laid to rest with family at Mountain View Cemetery. A private celebration of life will occur at a later date.
