It is with heavy saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest Wayne Grundy, age 52 years, on Friday, October 30, 2015.

Ernest was born on October 25, 1962 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He arrived in Thunder Bay from the Maritimes in the mid eighties. He was part of a temporary government program, but remained in the city and quickly established friendships. Ernest eventually became part of the Elim Pentecostal Church family and enthusiastic pursued his spiritual direction. He became part of the staff and breezed through Bible College by correspondence before joining the Teen Challenge organization as a staff person, who served diligently, as a leader of youth struggling through addictions.

Ernest wrote two books documenting his struggles with mental illness, depression and rejection in youth. The books have served as an encouragement to many as he wrote of his successful passage through the worst of times.

His struggles with his physical conditions that made mobility very difficult for him did not stop him from working daily at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Ernest will be deeply missed by his adoptive families and friends, Roy and Laurel Kemp (Ma & Pa), Gary Prosser and Larry Kurec as well as the many friends he made through his volunteer efforts to help the poor and needy of Thunder Bay.

A Celebration of Ernest's Life will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in the Chapel.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Ernest to the Salvation Army, Teen Challenge or Alpha Court Mental Health Services would be greatly appreciated.
