It is with much sadness and heavy hearts the family of Filomena Tassone, of Tupper St. (formerly of Peter St.), announce her unexpected passing at St. Joseph’s Hospital on May 1, 2018, after a brief illness. Filomena was born in Ottati, Province of Salerno, Italy on June 12, 1927 to Virginia (Gatti) and Angelo Grieco. She married Giuseppe on February 25, 1952 and they celebrated and enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
They lived in Ottati until 1960 when Giuseppe immigrated to Canada in search of a better life for their family, joining his brothers and sisters in Port Arthur, Ontario. In July 1961, Filomena and their two eldest children were reunited as a family.
For many years mom worked as a seamstress at Woods Tent and Awning and Tee Kay Apparal. She was a long-standing member of the CWL.
Filomena enjoyed the simple things in life. Her family, friends and home were her main interests. She took great pride in passing on her knowledge of many Italian traditions to her children and grandchildren. She was a kind and generous woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. She was truly happiest at all gatherings surrounded by her close and extended family members and friends. In later years her Christian faith gave her much comfort and strength.
Filomena will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, Rosarina Venn, Bruno (Teresa) of Vancouver, Marietta (Bill) Austin and Angelo (Eda); her grandchildren, Ryan (Kelly) Venn, Becky (Don) Ross, Michael (Erin) Venn, Joseph David and Thomas Tassone, Christopher (Gabrielle) and Andrew Austin and Joseph Peter and Matthew Tassone; her great grandchildren, Maya and Clark Venn, Madeline and Walker Ross and Nathaniel and Lauren Venn; sister-in-law Maria Grieco and niece Maria Virginia (Italy), niece Virginia and nephew Angelo Grieco (Italy), in-laws Salvatore and Giuseppina Tassone (Italy), Angelina Pisani (Italy), Marietta Larizza, Antonio and Raffaela Tassone, Cosimo and Immaculata Tassone, Bruna Larizza and Gina Tassone as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
