It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Joseph Gerard Lemieux, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on Friday, May 31st, 2024, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

George was born on February 6, 1956 in Swan Lake, Manitoba to Guy and Georgette Lemieux. Following in the footsteps of his father, George began his long career with TransCanada Pipelines in 1974, quickly working his way up to Chief Inspector. Anyone who knew George on the pipeline would speak volumes of his commitment to his job, employee health and safety and his dedication to TransCanada.

In December 2021, after 48 years of devoted service, George retired from TransCanada Pipelines. In his retirement, George embraced his love for life and adventure. His happy place was, and always will be, the island of Maui, Hawaii, where George and the love of his life, Donna-Mae, spent many vacations together. Their adventures didn’t stop there, they also embraced the beauty of many Caribbean Islands, and went on multiple road trips. When not traveling, one would find George in his beautifully landscaped yard and perennial gardens, where he found peace and tranquility.

While George loved to travel, his happiest moments were spent with his children, Jessica and Mark (Anthony), his step-children Melissa (Toby) and Rick, and his step-grandchildren, Rylan and Daxon. His children were the light of his life and George was most fulfilled when he visited Jessica and Mark in Toronto and when they returned home for special occasions, indulging in a bottle of exquisite wine and a delicious meal sharing stories filled with laughter. His step-grandchildren, Rylan and Daxon were special treasures who gave George new life in his later years. From sleepovers, to adventures at the CLE carnival and Bentleyville, to quick trips to Toys R’ Us, George always made the most of his time with them, creating memories that will continue to live on.

George was a man filled with kindness, generosity, patience and love. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna-Mae, his children Jessica and Mark (Anthony), his stepchildren Melissa (Toby) Braithwaite and Rick Galati, his step-grandchildren Rylan and Daxon Braithwaite, his siblings Diane, Roger (Donna), Gerald (Jo-Anne), Michael (Sylvana), Don (Elizabeth), his numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and his grand-animals Talla, Miko, Luna and Mack. George is predeceased by his parents Guy and Georgette Lemieux and his niece Katherine Lemieux.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Oncology Unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their wonderful care.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society.

~Love you forever~ Donna-Mae (Babe)
