Gertrude “Trudy” Lena Frowen (nee Maryschak), aged 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by what she treasured most, the love of her family.

Born in Vita, Manitoba, she grew up on the family farm on Wardrope Ave, Port Arthur, attending Jumbo Gardens and PACI.

A lifelong maternity nurse, Trudy found great joy in helping new parents find their footing as their families expanded.

At the time of her retirement, she had been present for the births of three generations in some of her first patients.

A member of the PAGH graduating class of 1964, she worked there until its closure, moving on to McKellar and finally to Thunder Bay Regional.

Not your traditional sports fan, Trudy was a founding member of the Thunder Bay Autosport Club, and an active member of the International Ice Racing Association, spending her summers doing rallies and autocross and her winters on the ice, locally and across the border.

Trudy shared her husband’s passion for classic cars, and together they spent many summers on the road attending Car Shows with their matching MG TDs.

She was a HUGE Blue Jays fan, and watching the game with her was always loud and entertaining.

An avid gardener, indoors and out, she could often be found in the garden or dividing her plants (and often yours) to share.

All year long, she kept the coffee and tea fresh and the door open for anyone who wanted to stop in for a visit.

Family was always most important, for years hosting the annual family picnic at Silver Beach and the Boxing Day Open House in town.

She was never happier than when surrounded by generations of loved ones.

Predeceased by her parents William and Lenora Maryschak, sister Wilma Moore, and beloved mother-in-law Violet Frowen, Trudy is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Lawrence, son Gordon (Diane), daughter Gwen (Warren) Tracz, granddaughters Courtney Schmude (Travis), Tabitha Frowen (Andrew), and Amber Frowen, great-grandchildren Lukas, BW, Arlove and Ren.

She is also survived by her sister MaryAnne Palanio, brother John (Peggy) Maryschak, brother-in-law Charlie Moore, all of Penticton, BC, and brother-in-law Michael (Joyce) Frowen, and the many nieces, nephews and cousins she held dear.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to Rhiannon and Hannah for their exception care and compassion to the entire family over her final days.

Funeral services to celebrate Trudy’s life will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Nancy Ringham presiding.

Those unable to attend the services in person may join via livestream through the Sargent & Son Facebook Page.

The inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
