GORDON (“SCOTTY”) BELL
August 23, 1925 – March 15, 2016
It is with sadness, but gratitude for a long life well lived, we announce that Gordon ("Scotty") Bell passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at age 90.
Scotty grew up near Cobourg, Ontario and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1950. He was a prominent forester in and around Thunder Bay for almost 40 years. However, he is best known and loved for his passion for automobiles - sports cars, car rallies, road racing, ice racing and classic car shows. He so loved the open road.
His wife Pat was his other great love, whom he selflessly helped through her health struggles in recent years. He also dearly loved his five grandchildren of whom he was so proud. A phone call with sons Allan or Graydon did not go by without him asking about each grandchild, enquiringly about their activities and accomplishments.
Scotty is survived by his wife of 66 years Patricia, sons Graydon (Sally Mills) and Allan (Valerie Knapp) and grandchildren Ian, Sean, Robyn, Maxine and Spencer. He will be dearly missed.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore St. West at James St. A private family interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery. Friends are invited for a time of fellowship and reception at the Valhalla Inn Hotel, following the service. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the Chapel.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Scotty to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Services Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
