Aviation has suffered a great loss with the untimely passing of Halorie William Melnick, age 62, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Husband to Patricia Inch; brother to Harriet (Phil Boullion) in Oakville, Harley (Laura) in Ottawa, and Howard (Janice) in Chicago; uncle to Jennifer, Lindsay, Stephanie, and Alexander Melnick; much loved by Pat’s sisters, Kathy (John Bowering), Connie (Kelly Locker), Donna (Audrey), Susan (Andy Bruce) and the next generation: Ashley, Erin, Brendan, Megan, Graham, Emily, Jon, Connor and Kieran.
Born in 1959 to Harry and Lorene Melnick, Halorie grew up surrounded by seaplanes before leading the family business, Lakehead Aviation Limited, as the President and Chief Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (A.M.E.) over the past 30 years. As an instructor, he was dedicated to sharing his knowledge with aircraft maintenance students in Confederation College’s school of aviation.
Halorie and Pat loved to travel and shared many stories about South Africa, cruising the Caribbean, visiting Disney World and NASA. We will always remember his passion for live theatre and Broadway musicals. Gifted with a photographic memory, we regularly lost to him at Trivial Pursuit and cards out at camp but his mind also held a wealth of knowledge that we all benefited from and will miss terribly.
We will remember him as a gentle and kind man who was always ready to help when asked, tell a joke, or sing a song.
The family expresses their gratitude for the wonderful care provided to him by the staff
in the Hospice at St. Joseph’s.
Visitation to celebrate Halorie's life will be held on Friday, October 8th, 2021 from 1:00 until 3:00pm and from 5:00 until 7:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street (at James), Thunder Bay.
As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, COVID protocols are still being applied in group settings. A record of attendance must be maintained, wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet is mandatory for those attending the visitations.
In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations in his memory to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay (Hospice), Regional Cancer Care Northwest, or a charity of your choice.
