It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Harold Melvin Munford on December 27, 2023. He was born on May 26, 1933 on his grandparent’s farm in Harriston, ON.

Harold was a loyal Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan. He also started collecting stamps at an early age and had been a member of the Lakehead Stamp Club since 2005.

Harold started his career with the Department of Highways (now MTC) in 1953. In 1961 he was transferred to Fort William to the Geotechnical Division. He retired in 1988 after 35 years of service.

Harold and his wife Irene met in 1973 and spent many years travelling together. Some of their most memorable vacations were the Land and Sea Alaskan Cruise and the Rocky Mountain Train Trip.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Irene. They enjoyed 48 years together. Survived by daughters Susan Bushby and Marion Ahlstrom (Jody); step-daughters Cindy Woodbeck and Jo-Lynne Dias (Roy); grandchildren Rannon Ahlstrom, Jorja Dias and Stefani Lucan; great granchildren Brea, Maisie, Corra and Lennox Desaulniers. Also survived by sister-in-law Gail Munford and brothers-in-law Gilles AuCoin and James Pole, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Melvin and Margaret, brothers Rodney, Lionel and Bill Sumerton; sisters Janis AuCoin and Marlo Nagel; son-in-law Tom Bushby and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Cookie) Pole; his first wife Margaret and her parents Samuel and Ruth Stockton and his in-laws William and Josie Pole.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment at Mountain View Cemetery has been scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Toys for Tots.
