Harry Leschyshyn passed away October 10th, 2016 at Pinewood Court. Harry was born in Zukiw Poland on October 10th, 1923 to John and Sophie Leschyshyn. He spent 3 years in Luback Camp in Germany during the Second World War. Harry immigrated to Canada on June 21st, 1947 and to Fort William on August 5th, 1947.

He was employed with Great Lakes Paper Company in the Woodlands Division as a tree cutter, bush worker, garage maintenance and bull cook, retiring in 1988 after 41 years of service. Harry belonged to the Ukrainian National Federation and was a member of the Ukrainian Church of the Holy Cross, the Holy Cross Golden Agers as well as a life member of the Great Lakes Athletic Association.He was also a veteran of the Second World War.

Harry was a kind, quiet, soft spoken man who was very proud and always polite and considerate of others. He enjoyed long walks and gambling at Grand Portage Casino. Gardening and lawn care was his passion. He kept his car spotless and washed it even when it wasn’t dirty.

Harry is survived by his daughter Patricia (Gene) Sears of Saskatoon, son Bill (Debbie) Leschyshyn of Calgary, Granddaughters Tara Leschyshyn, Michele Gilby, Tera (Craig) Chanasyk, Leanna Redford and Grandsons Shane, Jeremy, Jarett and Evan Sears, Kristopher Redford and Travis Ritz. Great Grandchildren Owen Sears, Olivia Sears, Jordon, Samantha and Brooklyn Gilby and Alivia Chanasyk as well as relatives in the Ukraine. Harry is predeceased by his parents John and Sophie, his brother Mike and longtime friend Mary Krustak. He will be sadly missed by Ann Kozlowski and family.

Funeral services for Harry will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Holy Cross, 415 West Victoria Avenue with Rev. Stepan Didur officiating. Interment will follow in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials to the Holy Cross Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
