November 6th, 1930 – March 18th, 2025
Mrs. Helen Koroll (nee Palahnuk), age 94 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025.
Helen was born on November 6th, 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to William and Mary (nee Cherneski) Palahnuk. She moved with her family to Fort William in 1937, settling in Westfort, where Helen continued to live until her passing. She was educated locally and had a successful career as a Dietary Aide at McKellar Hospital. She met Jack Koroll and they were married on April 1st, 1947. Helen was passionate about her family and dedicated her life to creating a loving home for them.
Helen loved to garden, cook, and bake, with her family eating her delicious perogies as fast as they were made. She loved watching a good movie and did crossword puzzles daily. She was an avid reader and loved a good mystery novel, re-reading Girl With the Dragon Tattoo recently.
Her monthly visits to the casino with her partner in crime, Darlene, kept up by dragging her reluctant daughter after Darlene passed. Helen thought the casino was a "great place for seniors" as she lovingly told her grandson on one of their shared birthday events and one of her last trips there a few years ago.
It was that wry sense of humour, and her kind and loving nature that her family and all who knew her will remember. Helen was gentle but strong, and adored her family. She was delighted to celebrate her grandson's recent engagement as she knew how much happiness it brought him.
Helen will be deeply missed by her loving daughter, Donna (Stewart Mainville); grandson Zachary (Ursula Cote); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack; three sons, David, Bill and Alan; her mother Mary and father William; her sisters Betty (Reg) and Mary (Fred), and brothers Jackie, Edward, Bill, John and Rod (Darlene), as well as many other extended family members.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cole, Dr. Sellick, N.P. Richard, and the nursing team at St. Joe's Hospice. We are so grateful for our friends, neighbours, family and the team at Hospice Northwest for their kindness and support. We have experienced your love in action. We would also like to thank her niece Debbie and husband Frank Bil for always looking out for Helen, especially these last few years.
An informal Drop-In Celebration of Helen's Life will be held in her home on Friday, April 11th, 2025 from 2:00 until 6:00pm. A private interment will be held in Mountainview Cemetery, where Helen will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jack.
