John was born in the town of Terband, the Netherlands. John served for the Dutch Army in Indonesia for three years after which he immigrated to Canada in the fifties, first to Edmonton, than to Thunder Bay where he settled permanently.

He worked for various farms in the area, before getting a job with Cargill Elevators where he worked till retirement. John married Anne Bolt in 1960 and they resided in the Vickers Heights area till they moved into an apartment at Jasper Place in 2011.John was a founding member of Hope Christian Reformed Church.

His faith was constant. John is survived by his loving wife Anne. His brother Jaap (Fokje). In laws Bob Bolt, Ann Bolt, Eunice Voetberg, Susan VanderWees, Pete and Trina Bolt, Sam and Jeannette Bolt, Tinie Doppenberg, Cor and Fenny Bolt. He was predeceased by sisters Anna and (Coen) Bylsma, Tjitske and (Theo) Woudstra: in laws Elsie Bolt, Eddy Bolt, Harold Bolt, Wietse Voetberg,

Len VanderWees, Bill Doppenberg, Jansje Bolt. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday  Feb 20, 2016 at Hope Christian Reformed Church , 1315 Crawford   Ave, Thunder Bay. Pastor Robert Hoekstra officiating. A Private Interment will be held at Stanley Hill Cemetery prior to service, leaving  Hope Christian Reformed Church at 11 a.m.

A time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. If friends and relatives desire memorials may be made to Thunder Bay Christian School. Pall bearers: Doug Bolt, Mark Bolt, Harold Bolt, Kyle Bolt, Daniel Agombar, Matthew Agombar

Jan Toering will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
