With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jane Ann Tackney. There are no words to describe the loss that we’re experiencing. She died unexpectedly at home at the age of 65. Jane's life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts and minds exceeds the quantity of time that she was with us.
Jane was born in Oshawa, Ontario on December 29th, 1956. She was raised by her Nana and Daddy in her early years, whom she loved and spoke about fondly. Circumstances brought her to Thunder Bay and she lived a wonderful life with her parents Matt & Margaret Chuckrey, sisters Glenna, Diane and Janine and little brother Scott.
While working at Coca-Cola she met the love of her life and best friend, Dennis Tackney. After marrying, they moved into the family home on Francis Street in Westfort and had three children, Dennis Jr, Jill & Patrick. They had many fun years throughout the 1980s and 1990s. There was never a shortage of friends and family visiting the Tackney home. Mom loved the Westfort Little League years – dogs on wheels, trips to Austen, MN/Valleyfair and times with Eddie, Jim and Amy were some of her fondest memories. Jane and Dennis loved their neighbours, the Lombardo's and the Lee's.
From 1998 to 2012, mom was the proud owner of Tackney's Tavern. Although the location moved around, the bar was always full of 'regulars' and staff whom she loved. The annual St. Patrick's Day party was a highlight each year. Over the last ten years, she worked as a bookkeeper at Lakehead Diesel & Hydraulic and in the cash office at Wal-Mart on Dawson Road. She had an extremely strong worth ethic and always spoke highly of her co-workers and their families.
Jane, affectionally known as Muffy, was the most wonderful and devoted mother. She was our biggest supporter, number one cheerleader and our most cherished friend. Nothing was ever too hard or too far away. There was never a better mother. She was the most selfless person and helped shape us to be the people we are today and told us regularly, "the sky's the limit" and "go for it!". She was the best Muffy to her two beloved grandchildren, Elle & Walker. She loved the children with all her heart and always spoiled them with excessive amounts of candy, TV and toys. They loved when she would visit them in Toronto and say, NO RULES.
It's wildly difficult to find the words to describe our mom and just how much we miss her. She was the light of our lives. She was loving, caring, and had enormous energy for life. She lived life to the fullest and would light up any room she entered. To everyone who loved her, please know that she loved you with all her heart. She is not gone, however, now a magnificent memory that dwells in the hearts of those that knew her.
Jane is survived by Patrick Tackney (Tyler), Jill Cheyne (nee Tackney), Kevin Cheyne, Elle Cheyne, Walker Cheyne, mother, Margaret Chuckrey, sisters, Glenna Baraskewich (Mike), Diane Groulx (Andre), Janine Lewkoski, brother, Scott Chuckey (Tracey), her very special aunt, Nancy Wilson and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Special mention to the Joseph family, Terry, Teri-Kristy, Brooke and especially Bonnie, her sister-in-law and best friend.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Dennis Tackney, son Dennis Tackney Jr, dad Matthew Chuckrey, and grandparents Daisy & Edgar Bisch, and Edna & Albert Ruthven.
To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. Between the staff at Lakehead Diesel & Wal-Mart on Dawson Road, regulars at Westfort taverns, members of St. Agnes Parish and everyone else whose lives she touched. Jane was a friend to everyone and everyone's friend.
Funeral services will take place at St. Agnes Parish on Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022 at 12 noon. Burial to follow immediately at St. Patrick's Cemetery, 1351 Broadway Avenue. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to please provide Proof of Vaccination and Government Photo I.D. upon arrival.

NO IN LIEU OFS! Please send flowers. She regularly reminded her family that she wanted lots of flowers at her funeral, and anyone who knew her can attest to how often she told us this.
