You made it to your birthday mom…
On January 18, 2024, Janis Mayer passed peacefully, after a short, but inspiring show of strength in her fight with pancreatic cancer. Typical to mom, to not leave anyone out, she stayed and took her final breath with friends and family on her birthday, and left to celebrate the rest of it with dad on the same day. Our mom leaves behind a legacy of love and caring that will be unmatched. Her love of family and friends shone through in everything that she did, including making apple, pumpkin or blueberry pies for every dinner she was ever invited to, or just the welcome you would get when you unexpectedly showed up at her house. Most notably, she will be remembered by people across the globe for her handmade Christmas Stockings. In total there are well over 500 of them out there somewhere, each personalized and created with love. Mom was the most determined, hardworking woman you could find, yet as soft in heart as you would ever need.
Janis is survived by her children, Keith (Tricia) and Cora (Greg), along with her grandchildren, whom she loved to the end of the earth. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, and countless other family and friends who all held a special part in her life. She was predeceased by her husband, William Mayer, in 2016.
As per mom's wishes, cremation has taken place, and burial at Stanley Hill Cemetery will take place in a private family ceremony. A celebration of life will happen at a later date.
We would also like to give a sincere Thank You to every Doctor, Nurse, Family member or Friend that came in contact with and helped mom during her fight. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or St Joseph's Care Group.
